Erfgoedinclusief verdichten in dorpen 2010-2025

The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands believes it is important that residents can continue to feel at home in their living environment when adding extra living space. A heritage-inclusive approach is essential for this. In this approach, additional homes are added in a way that responds to – and builds on – the cultural-historical and spatial characteristics present.

This publication is intended for experts and (groups of) residents who are working on housing construction in villages. Ten examples from the period 2010-2025 show various densification strategies from transformation/repurposing, demolition/new construction, expansion to expansion and various design solutions. The examples serve as inspiration to add extra living space to villages that can be read as a logical, new chapter to ‘that which is’.

It is our pleasure that, as an organization, we have been able to contribute for a long time to the livability of such a special cultural and historical area.
